JOHN BAPTIZES JESUS

And he ( John ) was preaching, and saying, "After me One is coming who is mightier than I, and I am not fit to stoop down and untie the thong of His sandals.  I baptized you with water; but He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit."  In those days Jesus came from Nazareth in Galilee and was baptized by John in the Jordan.  Immediately coming up out of the water, He saw the heavens opening, and the Spirit like a dove descending upon Him; and a voice came out of the heavens: "You are My beloved Son, in You I am well-pleased." -- 1:7-11

JESUS' MINISTRY TO SINNERS

When the scribes of the Pharisees saw that He was eating with the sinners and tax collectors, they said to His disciples, "Why is He eating and drinking with tax collectors and sinners?"  And hearing this, Jesus said to them, "it is not those who are healthy who need a physician, but those who are sick; I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners." -- 2:16-17

FASTING

John's disciples and the Pharisees were fasting; and they came and said to Him, "Why do John's disciples and the disciples of the Pharisees fast, but Your disciples do not fast?"  And Jesus said to them, "While the bridegroom is with them, the attendants of the bridegroom cannot fast, can they? So long as they have the bridegroom with them, they cannot fast.  But the days will come when the bridegroom is taken away from them, and then they will fast in that day." -- 2:18-20

GIVEN AND TAKEN AWAY

Take care what you listen to. By your standard of measure it will be measured to you; and more will be given you besides.  For whoever has, to him more shall be given; and whoever does not have, even what he has shall be taken away from him. -- 4:24-25

UNCLEANNESS

After He called the crowd to Him again, He began saying to them, "Listen to Me, all of you, and understand: there is nothing outside the man which can defile him if it goes into him; but the things which proceed out of the man are what defile the man.  If anyone has ears to hear, let him hear."  When he had left the crowd and entered the house, His disciples questioned Him about the parable.  And He said to them, "Are you so lacking in understanding also? Do you not understand that whatever goes
into the man from outside cannot defile him, because it does not go into his heart, but into his stomach, and is eliminated?" (Thus He declared all foods clean.)  And He was saying, "That which proceeds out of the man, that is what defiles the man.  For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed the evil thoughts, fornications, thefts, murders, adulteries, deeds of coveting and wickedness, as well as deceit, sensuality, envy, slander, pride and foolishness.  All these evil things proceed from within and defile the man." -- 7:14-23

WHO DO YOU SAY THAT I AM?

Jesus went out, along with His disciples, to the villages of Caesarea Philippi; and on the way He questioned His disciples, saying to them, "Who do people say that I am?"  They told Him, saying, "John the Baptist; and others say Elijah; but others, one of the prophets."  And He continued by questioning them, "But who do you say that I am?"  Peter answered and said to Him,
"You are the Christ." -- 8:27-29

GET THEE BEHIND ME, SATAN

He began to teach them that the Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders and the chief priests and the scribes, and be killed, and after three days rise again.  And He was stating the matter plainly. And Peter took Him aside and began to rebuke Him.  But turning around and seeing His disciples, He rebuked Peter and said, "Get behind Me, Satan; for you are not setting your mind on God's interests, but Man's." -- 8:31-33

DENY YOURSELF

If anyone wishes to come after Me, he must deny himself, and take up his cross and follow Me.  For whoever wishes to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake and the
gospel's will save it.  For what does it profit a man to gain the whole world, and forfeit his soul?  For what will a man give in exchange for his soul?  For whoever is ashamed of Me and My words in this adulterous and sinful generation, the Son of Man will also be ashamed of him when He comes in the glory of His Father with the holy angels." -- 8:34-38

THE TRANSFIGURATION

And Jesus was saying to them, "Truly I say to you, there are some of those who are standing here who will not taste death until they see the kingdom of God after it has come with power."
Six days later, Jesus took with Him Peter and James and John, and brought them up on a high mountain by themselves. And He was transfigured before them; and His garments became radiant and exceedingly white, as no launderer on earth can whiten them.  Elijah appeared to them along with Moses; and they were talking with Jesus.  Peter said to Jesus, "Rabbi, it is good for us to be here; let us make three tabernacles, one for You, and one for Moses, and one for Elijah."  For he did not know what to answer; for they became terrified.  Then a cloud formed, overshadowing them, and a voice came out of the cloud, This is My beloved Son, listen to Him!" -- 9:1-7

BELIEF

And Jesus said to him, "... All things are possible to him who believes."  Immediately the boy's father cried out and said, "I do believe; help my unbelief." -- 9:23-24

HE WILL RISE

He was teaching His disciples and telling them, "The Son of Man is to be delivered into the hands of men, and they will kill Him; and when He has been killed, He will rise three days later."
But they did not understand this statement, and they were afraid to ask Him. -- 9:31-32

THE LEAST

Sitting down, He called the twelve and said to them, "If anyone wants to be first, he shall be last of all and servant of all."  Taking a child, He set him before them, and taking him in His arms, He said to them, "Whoever receives one child like this in My name receives Me; and whoever receives Me does not
receive Me, but Him who sent Me." -- 9:35-37

MARRIAGE

From the beginning of creation, God made them male and female.  For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother.
and the two shall become one flesh; so they are no longer two, but one flesh.  What therefore God has joined together, let no man separate. -- 10:6-9

PERMIT THE CHILDREN

And they were bringing children to Him so that He might touch them; but the disciples rebuked them.  But when Jesus saw this, He was indignant and said to them, "Permit the children to come to Me; do not hinder them; for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these.  Truly I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God like a child will not enter it at all." -- 10:13-15

WHAT SHALL I DO?

As He was setting out on a journey, a man ran up to Him and knelt before Him, and asked Him, "Good Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?"  And Jesus said to him, "Why do you call Me good? No one is good except God alone.  You know the commandments, 'Do not murder, do not commit adultery, do not steal, do not bear false witness, do not defraud, honor your father and mother.'"  And he said to Him, "Teacher, I have kept all these things from my youth up."  Looking at him, Jesus felt a love for him and said to him, "One thing you lack: go and sell all you possess and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me."  But at these words he was saddened, and he went away grieving, for he was one who owned much property. -- 10:17-22

THE EYE OF A NEEDLE

It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God.  They were even more astonished and said to Him, "Then who can be saved?"  Looking at them, Jesus said, "With people it is impossible, but not with God; for all things are possible with God." -- 10:25-27

FOR THE GOSPEL'S SAKE

Jesus said, "Truly I say to you, there is no one who has left house or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or farms, for My sake and for the gospel's sake, but that he will receive a hundred times as much now in the present age, houses and brothers and sisters and mothers and children and farms, along with persecutions; and in the age to come, eternal life.  But many who are first will be last, and the last, first." -- 11:29-31

TO SERVE

Whoever wishes to become great among you shall be your servant; and whoever wishes to be first among you shall be slave of all.  For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many." -- 10:43-45

PALM SUNDAY

They brought the colt to Jesus and put their coats on it; and He sat on it.  And many spread their coats in the road, and others spread leafy branches which they had cut from the fields.  Those who went in front and those who followed were shouting: "Hosanna!  Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord; Blessed is the coming kingdom of our father David; Hosanna in the highest!"  Jesus entered Jerusalem. -- 11:7-11

PRAY, ASK, AND BELIEVE

Have faith in God.  Truly I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, "Be taken up and cast into the sea," and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that what he says is going to happen, it will be granted him.  Therefore I say to you, all things for which you pray and ask, believe that you have received them, and they will be granted you. -- 11:22-24

THE GREATEST COMMANDMENT

Jesus answered, "The foremost is, 'HEAR, O ISRAEL! THE LORD OUR GOD IS ONE LORD;  AND YOU SHALL LOVE THE LORD YOUR GOD WITH ALL YOUR HEART, AND WITH ALL
YOUR SOUL, AND WITH ALL YOUR MIND, AND WITH ALL YOUR STRENGTH.'  The second is this, 'YOU SHALL LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF.' There is no other
commandment greater than these." -- 12:29-31

THE WIDOW'S MITE

And He sat down opposite the treasury, and began observing how the people were putting money into the treasury; and many rich people were putting in large sums.  A poor widow came and put in two small copper coins, which amount to a cent.  Calling His disciples to Him, He said to them, "Truly I say to you, this poor widow put in more than all the contributors to the treasury;
for they all put in out of their surplus, but she, out of her poverty, put in all she owned, all she had to live on." -- 12:41-44

THE SIGNS OF THE END TIMES

"Tell us, when will these things be, and what will be the sign when all these things are going to be fulfilled?"  And Jesus began to say to them, "See to it that no one misleads you.  Many will come in My name, saying, 'I am He!' and will mislead many.  When you hear of wars and rumors of wars, do not be frightened; those things must take place; but that is not yet the end.  For nation will rise up against nation, and kingdom against kingdom; there will be earthquakes in various places; there will also be famines. These things are merely the beginning of birth pangs.  But be on your guard; for they will deliver you to the courts, and you will be flogged in the synagogues, and you will stand before governors and kings for My sake, as a testimony to them.  The gospel must first be preached to all the nations.  When they arrest you and hand you over, do not worry beforehand about what you are to say, but say whatever is given you in that hour; for it is not you who speak, but it is the Holy Spirit.  Brother will betray brother to death, and a father his child; and children will rise up against parents and have them put to death.  You will be hated by all because of My name, but the one who endures to the end, he will be saved.  But when you see the ABOMINATION OF DESOLATION standing where it should not be (let the reader understand), then those who are in Judea must flee to the mountains.  The one who is on the housetop must not go down, or go in to get anything out of his house; and the one who is in the field must not turn back to get his coat.  But woe to those who are pregnant and to those who are nursing babies in those days!  But pray that it may not happen in the winter.  For those days will be a time of tribulation such as has not occurred since the beginning of the creation
which God created until now, and never will.  Unless the Lord had shortened those days, no life would have been saved; but for the sake of the elect, whom He chose, He shortened the days.  And then if anyone says to you, 'Behold, here is the Christ'; or, 'Behold, He is there'; do not believe him; for false Christs and false prophets will arise, and will show signs and wonders, in order to lead astray, if possible, the elect.  But take heed; behold, I have told you everything in advance.  But in those days, after that tribulation, the sun will be darkened and the moon will not give its light, and the stars will be falling from heaven, and the powers that are in the heavens will be shaken.  Then they will see the Son of Man coming in cloudswith great power and glory.  And then He will send forth the angels, and will gather together His elect from the four winds, from the farthest end of the earth to the farthest end of heaven.  Now learn the parable from the fig tree: when its branch has already become tender and puts forth its leaves, you know that summer is near.  Even so, you too, when you see these things happening, recognize that He is near, right at the door.  Truly I say to you, this generation will not pass away until all these things take place.  Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will not pass away.  But of that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but the Father alone.  Take heed, keep on the alert; for you do not know when the appointed time will come." -- 13:4-33

THE WOMAN WHO ANOINTED JESUS

While He was in Bethany at the home of Simon the leper, and reclining at the table, there came a woman with an alabaster vial of very costly perfume of pure nard; and she broke the vial and poured it over His head.  But some were indignantly remarking to one another, "Why has this perfume been wasted?
For this perfume might have been sold for over three hundred denarii, and the money given to the poor."  And they were scolding her.  But Jesus said, "Let her alone; why do you bother her? She has done a good deed to Me.  For you always have the poor with you, and whenever you wish you can do good to them; but you do not always have Me.  She has done what she could; she has anointed My body beforehand for the burial.  Truly I say to you, wherever the gospel is preached in the whole world, what this woman has done will also be spoken of in memory of her." -- 14:3-9

THE PASSOVER SEDER/LAST SUPPER

As they were reclining at the table and eating, Jesus said, "Truly I say to you that one of you will betray Me -- one who is eating with Me."  They began to be grieved and to say to Him one by one, "Surely not I?"  And He said to them, "It is one of the twelve, one who dips with Me in the bowl.  For the Son of Man is to go just as it is written of Him; but woe to that man by whom the Son of Man is betrayed! It would have been good for that man if he had not been born."  While they were eating, He took some bread, and after a blessing He broke it, and gave it to them, and said, "Take it; this is My body."  And when He had taken a cup and given thanks, He gave it to them, and they all drank from it.  And He said to them, "This is My blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many.  Truly I say to you, I will never again drink of the fruit of the vine until that day when I drink it new in the kingdom of God. -- 14:18-25

THE QUESTIONING OF JESUS

Again the high priest was questioning Him, and saying to Him, "Are You the Christ, the Son of the Blessed One?"  And Jesus said, "I am; and you shall see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of power, and coming with the clouds of heaven." -- 14:61-62

Pilate questioned Him, "Are You the King of the Jews?" And He answered him, "It is as you say." -- 15:2

THE CRUCIFIXION

And they crucified Him, and divided up His garments among themselves, casting lots for them to decide what each man should take. -- 15:24

Jesus uttered a loud cry, and breathed His last.  And the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom.  When the centurion, who was standing right in front of Him, saw the way He breathed His last, he said, "Truly this man was the Son of God!" -- 15:37-39

HE IS RISEN

When the Sabbath was over, Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James, and Salome, bought spices, so that they might come and anoint Him.  Very early on the first day of the week, they came to the tomb when the sun had risen.  They were saying to one another, "Who will roll away the stone for us from the entrance of the tomb?"  Looking up, they saw that the stone had been rolled away, although it was extremely large.  Entering the tomb, they saw a young man sitting at the right, wearing a white robe; and they were amazed.  And he said to them, "Do not be amazed; you are looking for Jesus the Nazarene, who has been crucified.  He has risen; He is not here; behold, here is the place where they laid Him.  But go, tell His disciples and Peter, He is going ahead of you to Galilee; there you will see Him, just as He told you." -- 16:1-7

THE GREAT COMMISSION

And He said to them, "Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation.  He who has believed and has been baptized shall be saved; but he who has disbelieved shall be condemned.  These signs will accompany those who have believed: in My name they will cast out demons, they will
speak with new tongues; they will pick up serpents, and if they drink any deadly poison, it will not hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover." -- 16:15-18

THE ASCENSION

When the Lord Jesus had spoken to them, He was received up into heaven and sat down at the right hand of God. -- 16:19
