UNDERSTATEMENT
by Erin Beck

America, the beautiful,
my well-fed and dirty friend
you ask too much of me to say stand aside
and watch you head full force to a tragic end
God said he is a lion and his spirit is within me
God said he is a lion and his spirit is within me
and I feel an earth-shaking roar
and I will raise my hands and fight this war
Ashtereth, her mouth aflame,
awaits the infant sacrifice
but ashtereth has many names:
Convenience, Pleasure, Money, Greed and Lies
and is your clinical slaughter really any more civilized?
when you've lost a generation, don't be so surprised
no matter what you say of me
let it be said that I stood
let it be said that I stood
let it be said that I stood...
hear, oh hear America
I have something to say
I will not pledge allegiance to this lie
but I'll sing about the truth, the life, the way
and I don't know if you'll notice
but I will stand my ground
and I don't know if you'll follow but I will not turn around
no matter what you say of me
let it be said that I stood
let it be said that I stood
let it be said that I stood...
my heart weeps for the mothers
and my heart bleeds for the dead and wounded babies
and I am just like any other
I'm a number as they count their casualties
I have laid upon your table and I've walked out your
back door
and my loss is so much greater than your lies could afford
but I'm standing now
on the side of truth
and no matter what you say of me
let it be said that I stood
let it be said that I stood
let it be said that I stood...
God said he is a lion and his spirit is within me
God said he is a lion and his spirit is within me
and I feel an earth-shaking roar
and I will raise my hands and fight this war.
the word of God is dusty on a shelf in every home
ah but the silence says it all
and I am not your maker, I am not your judge
but I've traveled down that road
and I see where you are heading and I'm
telling you the truth
I am telling you the truth
once you start saying life isn't precious,
tell me where do you draw the line?
America, your wisdom makes you all the more blind
no matter what you say of me
let it be said that I stood
let it be said that I stood
let it be said that I stood;
let it be said that I stood
let it be said that I stood
let it be said that I stood.

THE EASTERN
by Mike Blair

all the world I believed and held as mine,
comes breaking in my hands
and every demon that I had to deny is standing
in my face again
I cut the wound and I bleed until it's real, but I'm not condemned
waters that were calm begin to bring a storm alive
when a man who lost his innocence can still look into your eyes,
I feel...
heal this land   walk the cities with wounded feet; in your shadow we begin
fill this void   children cry of broken spirits, begging to come in
take this weeping   laid before an eternal God, sheltered without pride
brace these faces   turning towards the son again, no resistance left to hide
I can see the evidence as it's burned into my life
when a woman losing innocence can still look into your eyes
I feel, I feel this...

I can see from the evidence and I stand convinced that the Father's real
I can see from the evidence and I stand convinced that the Spirit's real
I can see from the evidence and I stand convinced that the Son is real
I can see, I can see, I believe my God is real

and all the world I believed and held as mine comes breaking, comes breaking
and every demon screaming in my mind has seen defeat
I can see the evidence as it's swept across the sky
when a child born in innocence can still look into my eyes,
and I feel, I feel still...

CRY WATER PRAYER
by Mike Blair

my eyes are made of water
and my blood is made of water
do you cry to see me fumbling through
this ocean of an obstacle?
you, the bridge builder
you, who walks on water
do you cry to see me swimming in my
deep, deep wells?
my bones are made from dust
and my flesh is made from dust
do you wonder how I get so far away
from simple trust?
my pulse is born of rhythm
and my cycles turn in rhythm
is it sad that seasons change and I'm
still green?
I cry water, pray for your living water
wash my earth stained fingers
though we see things as through a glass--
this is as clear as it gets here
though we see things as through a glass--
this is as clear as it gets here

SHIFTING SILENCE
by Mike Blair

the shifting silence moves within the space
between your soul and mine
our whole existence, caught up in the advent
of mortality
we have, we have
become refined through fire
we have become as those who live the
prophecy
we have, we have
become embedded with eternity
we have stepped into the threshing floor of
God and not withheld,
I am not withheld
every word he ever spoke to us was truth
every suffering decision made for you and I
every tear upon his skin began with you and I
when these words come down I confess
I have not begun to see clear through his
eyes.
I have not begun to relate to this pain
we have, we have prayed to the creator with
so many empty words
we have begun to move the ancient
boundaries
we know, now we know his spirit saved us
from our broken paths
we have stepped into the threshing floor of
God and not withheld
I am not withheld...
every word he ever spoke to us was sanctified
every suffering decision made for you and I
every tear upin his skin began with you and I
every tear upon his human skin began with
you and I
when these words come down I confess
I have not begun to see clear through his eyes
I have not begun to relate to his pain
and when these words fall on me I confess
I am too old to believe I can hide
from what the savior has spoken to me
from how this creator has made me alive

GOD AND THE BEAST

now that the woman is dressed with the sun
now that the moon has been laced underneath her
the war for the child who's in heaven's complete
now that the dragon has breathed its fire
I saw God break these walls, and plains of the earth
for Jerusalem's kin
wounded the beasts as they were
(it was clear that they had a story)
out of the sea and the land they came running
(from the place of the dead they were heard)
with all of their horns they would rule us
(nothing could stop them and yet we tried)
they said bow before your king
why should we rule alone?
as in Israel's sin
and we will hold thee again
why do you forget us? (aren't we the same?)
are we beyond forgiveness? (do I bury you?)
is there not something that we could still sacrifice
(do you pity me?)
something we hadn't before (aren't we so changing?)
is the blood that we drink
still the blood that we've chosen
we've chosen (we've chosen)
we've chosen to die in it
we saw God break his son and cast him down
and the beast turned away --
he was darker than sin
we were darker than sin --
I saw Christ rise again forever on his throne
because we couldn't feel him
because we couldn't see
and now we might believe ...

DEPARTURE
by Mike Blair

I had plans here for myself
went up the river and they fell through
started talking to the spirit of God
He knows what's best for you
so I put down all of my pride,
took my siutcase off of the shelf
thank God I still have time
His plans are enough for me
plans to love us, make us grow
and if he never gives me anything else,
it oughtta be enough to know
that it only is a matter of time
before I'll finally be in his presence and
thank God for blessed life
and I may never be granted
the dreams I thought meant the most to me
but I know I'll understand it
because I know what it means to be living now,
and thank God you are alive
I had plans here for myself
now I'm packing my bags and I'm going away
down to the river with the spirit of God
following God the rest of the way
following Jesus the rest of the way...
