POSSESS THE LAND

See, I have placed the land before you; go in and possess the land which the LORD swore to give to
your fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to them and their descendants after them. -- 1:8

Now, O Israel, listen to the statutes and the judgments which I am teaching you to perform, so that you may live and go in and take possession of the land which the LORD, the God of your fathers, is giving you.  You shall not add to the word which I am commanding you, nor take away from it, that you may keep the commandments of the LORD your God which I command you. -- 4:1-2

THE GOD OF ISRAEL

For what great nation is there that has a god so near to it as is the LORD our God whenever we call
on Him? -- 4:7

Then the LORD spoke to you from the midst of the fire; you heard the sound of words, but you saw no
form -- only a voice.  So He declared to you His covenant which He commanded you to perform, that is, the Ten Commandments; and He wrote them on two tablets of stone. -- 4:12-13

BEWARE OF IDOLATRY

So watch yourselves carefully, since you did not see any form on the day the LORD spoke to you at
Horeb from the midst of the fire, so that you do not act corruptly and make a graven image for yourselves in the form of any figure, the likeness of male or female, the likeness of any animal that is on the earth, the likeness of any winged bird that flies in the sky, the likeness of anything that creeps on the ground, the likeness of any fish that is in the water below the earth.  And beware not to lift up your eyes to heaven and see the sun and the moon and the stars, all the host of heaven, and be drawn away and worship them and serve them -- 4:15-19

So watch yourselves, that you do not forget the covenant of the LORD your God which He made with you, and make for yourselves a graven image in the form of anything against which the LORD your God has commanded you.  For the LORD your God is a consuming fire, a jealous God. -- 4:23-24

THE FORGIVENESS OF GOD

I call heaven and earth to witness against you today, that you will surely perish quickly from the land where you are going over the Jordan to possess it. You shall not live long on it, but will be utterly
destroyed.  The LORD will scatter you among the peoples, and you will be left few in number among the nations where the LORD drives you.  There you will serve gods, the work of man's hands, wood and stone, which neither see nor hear nor eat nor smell.
But from there you will seek the LORD your God, and you will find Him if you search for Him with all
your heart and all your soul.  When you are in distress and all these things have come upon you, in the latter days you will return to the LORD your God and listen to His voice.  For the LORD your God is a compassionate God; He will not fail you nor destroy you nor forget the covenant with your fathers which He swore to them. -- 4:26-31

THE CHOOSING OF ISRAEL

Indeed, ask now concerning the former days which were before you, since the day that God created
man on the earth, and inquire from one end of the heavens to the other.  Has anything been done like
this great thing, or has anything been heard like it?
Has any people heard the voice of God speaking from the midst of the fire, as you have heard it, and
survived?  Or has a god tried to go to take for himself a nation from within another nation by trials, by signs and wonders and by war and by a mighty hand and by an outstretched arm and by great terrors, as the LORD your God did for you in Egypt before your eyes?  To you it was shown that you might know that the LORD, He is God; there is no other besides Him.  Out of the heavens He let you hear His voice to discipline you; and on earth He let you see His great fire, and you heard His words from the midst of the fire. Because He loved your fathers, therefore He chose their descendants after them. And He personally brought you from Egypt by His great power, driving out from before you nations greater and mightier than you, to bring you in and to give you their land for an inheritance, as it is today.
Know therefore today, and take it to your heart, that the LORD, He is God in heaven above and on the
earth below; there is no other.  So you shall keep His statutes and His commandments which I am giving you today, that it may go well with you and with your children after you, and that you may live long on the land which the LORD your God is giving you for all time. -- 4:32-40

THE TEN COMMANDMENTS

"I am the LORD your God who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery.  You shall have no other gods before Me.

"You shall not make for yourself an idol, or any likeness of what is in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the water under the earth.  You shall not worship them or serve them; for I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children, and on the third and the fourth generations of those who hate Me, but showing lovingkindness to thousands, to those who love Me and keep My commandments.

"You shall not take the name of the LORD your God in vain, for the LORD will not leave him unpunished who takes His name in vain.

"Observe the sabbath day to keep it holy, as the LORD your God commanded you.  Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is a sabbath of the LORD your God; in it you shall not do any work, you or your son or your daughter or your male servant or your female servant or your ox or your donkey or any of your cattle or your sojourner who stays with you, so that your male servant and your female servant may rest as well as you.  You shall remember that you were a slave in the land of Egypt, and the LORD your God brought you out of there by a mighty hand and by an outstretched arm; therefore the LORD your God commanded you to observe the sabbath day.

"Honor your father and your mother, as the LORD your God has commanded you, that your days may
be prolonged and that it may go well with you on the land which the LORD your God gives you.

"You shall not murder.

"You shall not commit adultery.

"You shall not steal.

"You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.

"You shall not covet your neighbor's wife, and you shall not desire your neighbor's house, his field or his male servant or his female servant, his ox or his donkey or anything that belongs to your neighbor."

These words the LORD spoke to all your assembly at the mountain from the midst of the fire, of the cloud and of the thick gloom, with a great voice, and He added no more. He wrote them on two tablets of stone and gave them to me. -- 5:6-22

GOD SPEAKS

Who is there of all flesh who has heard the voice of the living God speaking from the midst of the fire,
as we have, and lived? -- 5:26

You shall walk in all the way which the LORD your God has commanded you, that you may live and
that it may be well with you, and that you may prolong your days in the land which you will possess. -- 5:33

GOD'S DELIVERANCE

When your son asks you in time to come, saying, "What do the testimonies and the statutes and the
judgments mean which the LORD our God commanded you?" then you shall say to your son, "We were slaves to Pharaoh in Egypt, and the LORD brought us from Egypt with a mighty hand." -- 6:20-21

A HOLY PEOPLE

For you are a holy people to the LORD your God; the LORD your God has chosen you to be a people
for His own possession out of all the peoples who are on the face of the earth.  The LORD did not set His love on you nor choose you because you were more in number than any of the peoples, for you were the fewest of all peoples, but because the LORD loved you and kept the oath which He swore to your forefathers. -- 7:6-8

SPIRITUAL FOOD

He humbled you and let you be hungry, and fed you with manna which you did not know, nor did your
fathers know, that He might make you understand that man does not live by bread alone, but man lives by everything that proceeds out of the mouth of the LORD. -- 8:3

WHAT GOD REQUIRES OF YOU

Now, Israel, what does the LORD your God require from you, but to fear the LORD your God, to walk in all His ways and love Him, and to serve the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your
soul, and to keep the LORD'S commandments and His statutes which I am commanding you today for your good?  Behold, to the LORD your God belong heaven and the highest heavens, the earth and all that is in it.  Yet on your fathers did the LORD set His affection to love them, and He chose their descendants after them, even you above all peoples, as it is this day.  So circumcise your heart, and stiffen your neck no longer.  For the LORD your God is the God of gods and the Lord of lords, the great, the mighty, and the awesome God who does not show partiality nor take a bribe.  He executes justice for the orphan and the widow, and shows His love for the alien by giving him food and clothing.
So show your love for the alien, for you were aliens in the land of Egypt.  You shall fear the LORD your God; you shall serve Him and cling to Him, and you shall swear by His name. He is your praise and He is your God, who has done these great and awesome things for you which your eyes have seen. -- 10:12-21

For the poor will never cease to be in the land; therefore I command you, saying, "You shall freely
open your hand to your brother, to your needy and poor in your land." -- 15:11

THE PILGRIMAGE FESTIVALS

Observe the month of Abib and celebrate the Passover to the LORD your God, for in the month
of Abib the LORD your God brought you out of Egypt by night.  You shall sacrifice the Passover to the LORD your God from the flock and the herd, in the place where the LORD chooses to establish His name.  You shall not eat leavened bread with it; seven days you shall eat with it unleavened bread, the bread of affliction (for you came out of the land of Egypt in haste), so that you may remember all the days of your life the day when you came out of the land of Egypt ...

You shall count seven weeks for yourself; you shall begin to count seven weeks from the time you begin to put the sickle to the standing grain.  Then you shall celebrate the Feast of Weeks to the LORD your God with a tribute of a freewill offering of your hand, which you shall give just as the LORD your God blesses you; and you shall rejoice before the LORD your God ... in the place where the LORD your God chooses to establish His name  ...

You shall celebrate the Feast of Booths seven days after you have gathered in from your threshing floor and your wine vat; and you shall rejoice in your feast ... Seven days you shall celebrate a feast to the LORD your God in the place which the LORD chooses, because the LORD your God will bless you in all your produce and in all the work of your hands, so that you will be altogether joyful.
Three times in a year all your males shall appear before the LORD your God in the place which He
chooses, at the Feast of Unleavened Bread and at the Feast of Weeks and at the Feast of Booths, and
they shall not appear before the LORD empty- handed. -- 16:1-16

THE SIN OF THE OCCULT

There shall not be found among you anyone who makes his son or his daughter pass through the fire, one who uses divination, one who practices witchcraft, or one who interprets omens, or a sorcerer, or one who casts a spell, or a medium, or a spiritist, or one who calls up the dead.  For whoever does these things is detestable to the LORD; and because of these detestable things the LORD your God will drive them out before you.  You shall be blameless before the LORD your God.  For those nations, which you shall dispossess, listen to those who practice witchcraft and to diviners, but as for you, the LORD your God has not allowed you to do so. -- 18:10-14

A PROPHET LIKE MOSES

The LORD your God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among you, from your countrymen, you shall listen to him.  This is according to all that you asked of the LORD your God in Horeb on the day of the assembly, saying, "Let me not hear again the voice of the LORD my God, let me not see this great fire anymore, or I will die."  The LORD said to me, "They have spoken well.  I will raise up a prophet from among their countrymen like you, and I will put My words in his mouth, and he shall speak to them all that I command him.  It shall come about that whoever will not listen to My words which he shall speak in My name, I Myself will require it of him. -- 18:15-19

THE RESTORATION OF ISRAEL

So it shall be when all of these things have come upon you, the blessing and the curse which I have set before you, and you call them to mind in all nations where the LORD your God has banished you, and you return to the LORD your God and obey Him with all your heart and soul according to all that I command you today, you and your sons,
then the LORD your God will restore you from captivity, and have compassion on you, and will gather you again from all the peoples where the LORD your God has scattered you.  If your outcasts are at the ends of the earth, from there the LORD your God will gather you, and from there He will bring you back. -- 30:1-4

CHOOSE LIFE

For this commandment which I command you today is not too difficult for you, nor is it out of reach.  It is not in heaven, that you should say, "Who will go up to heaven for us to get it for us and make us hear it, that we may observe it?"  Nor is it beyond the sea, that you should say, "Who will cross the sea for us to get it for us and make us hear it, that we may observe it?"  But the word is very near you, in your mouth and in your heart, that you may observe it.
See, I have set before you today life and prosperity, and death and adversity; in that I command you today to love the LORD your God, to walk in His ways and to keep His commandments and His statutes and His judgments, that you may live and multiply, and that the LORD your God may bless you in the land where you are entering to possess it. -- 30:11-16

I call heaven and earth to witness against you today, that I have set before you life and death, the
blessing and the curse. So choose life in order that you may live, you and your descendants, by loving the LORD your God, by obeying His voice, and by holding fast to Him; for this is your life and the length of your days, that you may live in the land which the LORD swore to your fathers, to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, to give them. -- 30:19-20

Be strong and courageous, do not be afraid or tremble at them, for the LORD your God is the one
who goes with you. He will not fail you or forsake you. -- 31:6

For the LORD'S portion is His people; Jacob is the allotment of His inheritance.  He found him in a desert land, And in the howling waste of a wilderness; He encircled him, He cared for him, He guarded him as the pupil of His eye.  Like an eagle that stirs up its nest, That hovers over its young, He spread His wings and caught them, He carried them on His pinions.  The LORD alone guided him, -- 32:9-12
